PostHeaderIcon It's Time To Man Up!

I'll try not to do this too often, but I need to get up on my soap box...

If you've read my profile, you know I'm straight, married and have two beautiful daughters.  So, my comments on this topic come to you with this perspective.

I was reading Sean Ashby's blog (Aussiebum founder) recently about who the target audience is for Aussiebum - gay, straight, etc...  I think Sean Ashby is dead-on when he writes, "At aussieBum we combine masculinity and sexiness, and as we say 'if you doubt yourself, wear something else.' "  I think too many men are afraid to express their masculinity and don't feel confident dressing and looking sexy for whomever their partner is or for whatever their sexual orientation is.  I think my gay and bi friends have gotten over this lack of self-confidence so I write this mainly to my fellow straight guys - really, it's ok to wear sexy underwear and still be straight!  And for the ladies reading this, buy your man something sexy - he'll thank you later! I know I actually feel more confident and frisky when I know I'm wearing something fun down below.

Now, if you're not ready to go out and try a mesh g-string, start out with something mild.  Go for a colored brief or some funky boxer-briefs.  Get comfortable with your masculinity by expressing yourself as a sexual being.  Ladies - maybe it's time to buy your man a pair to get him going - be sure to compliment often.

The human form is a beautiful thing and should be seen as such.  When ladies comment on a beautiful woman it doesn't make her a lesbian.  When a guy sees another guy in the gym or a sharp-dressed guy on the street it's ok to think they're attractive or good looking (and I know you do - we all do but just don't verbalize it) - it doesn't make you gay - it makes you a person who appreciates the aesthetics of the human form, regardless of the gender.  If a gay man looks at a beautiful woman, he doesn't turn straight.  You are who you are and appreciating the human form is just that - appreciating the art in all of us.

This Valentine's Day, I say DON'T doubt yourself and wear something else; instead, celebrate your masculinity and wear something bold, daring and sexy!

I'll start you off with a couple of ideas to get you going in the shallow end before you take off for the diving board ...

PostHeaderIcon Core-Point Hibiscus Trunk Review - You're going to like these!

The Core-Point Hibiscus Trunk is another winner in my reviews this week. Core-Point states they have been, "... committed to create premium quality products with innovative and unexpected style with a passion for street structure." I would say they've met their goal.

The pair of Hibiscus trunks (boxer briefs) I tried on were really very comfortable all day long.  The Core-Point Hibiscus Trunk is made from 80% polyester/20% elastane.  The blend of materials creates a silky feel and body-conforming stretch.  When I say stretch, I don't want to imply tight, because it's not.  By stretch, I mean that the material wraps the contours of your body to support you without the look of "extra" bulk material.

The cut of the Hibiscus Trunk is such that it creates a comfortable front pouch.  The legs on the trunk are average in length.  The length is nice for multiple seasonal wear - not too long that you're too hot and not too short that you have a brief style.  What I appreciated about the trunk is that the legs stayed in place and didn't ride up.  This, in part, is due to the elastane in the fabric along with the cut of the trunk.  For the rear, I was pleasantly surprise to find NO seams to irritate you throughout the day.
I must say, these are one of those pairs of trunks you wear without being reminded your wearing underwear - no readjustments, no squashing, no itchy seams in the wrong spots.  Comfort and style is what I look for and that's exactly what I found.  As a nice add-on, their designs also comes in a women's line.

For an added bonus, Core-Point is a member of 1% For The Planet where 1% of profits go to environmental non-profit groups.

If you're reading this review and want to get a pair, your luck just improved.  For a limited time, Core-Point is offering a 30% discount to Menswear Review readers.  Simple enter promo code: MWR at checkout.

PostHeaderIcon Aussiebum's 2010 Celebrate Valentine's Day Underwear Review

Aussiebum's 2010 Valentine's Day Celebrate Collection is simply awesome! I've had the pleasure of reviewing the Celebrate brief and boxer.  My Monday started out as a gloomy rainy day but changed quickly when my Aussiebum package arrived just as I was pulling out of the driveway.  I, of course, had to pull back in and change just so I could try these out today.  Really, what better way to turn around a gloomy Monday than to wear a pair of fun Aussiebum briefs?
Without a doubt the playful, sassy designs will grab your attention.  When I first pulled the briefs out of the packaging I immediately had to check what they were made out of because they looked so silky.  The joy doesn't stop there.  The brief is made from 75% polyester/25% elastane which gives it the silky look while providing comfortable stretch.  The fabric's silky sheen also provides a silky feel on.  The quality of the brief is quite evident as you look at the stitching of the waist band and leg bands.  The waistband is incredibly comfortable, as are the leg bands.  I found the leg bands to hold the brief in place nicely without being overly binding.  The cut of the brief allows the brief to sit just right on your body.  Combining the cut and fabric, the briefs support you, accentuate your form, and feel great on.

All around, as is typical for Aussiebum, they're a hit.  You'll notice that Aussiebum is listed in my Valentine's Day Shopping Guide - check 'em out!

PostHeaderIcon PACT Underwear Review - Fashion, Eco-Friendly and Comfort Meet!

PACT Underwear,
a brand which launched in August, 2009, is making a name for itself as an eco-friendly underwear company.  For PACT, being eco-friendly is not just a saying, they live it.  Aside from being made from organic cotton, PACT ships its products in a compostable envelope and every pair is inspired by a social or environment cause with 10% of the sale going to their non-profit partners.  So, before even trying a pair on, I've been impressed and hopeful they'd be as good as their company is eco-friendly.  To my delight, they are.

I had the pleasure of trying out their Oceana Trunk.  Right out of the cloth packaging, it's evident the fabric is pleasantly soft and quite stylish in their 95% organic cotton/5% elastane blend.  The fabric, as I said, is quite soft and the elastane gives it just enough stretch and memory to make these trunks extremely comfortable.  Sometimes 100% cotton underwear stretches during the day and doesn't bounce back to form.  With the added 5% elastane, you enjoy the comfort of the cotton without having them stretch out during the day.

As for the cut, the pouch was rather comfortable and held things in place nicely without being binding.  The seat, being a trunk, was full coverage.  There was a seem between the cheeks which added to a flattering look in the rear.  It's important to know that the rear seem didn't bother me at all - couldn't even tell it was there - which is sometimes a problem with rear seams.  I liked how the stitching on the sides is strategically placed to hold where it needs to while providing comfort.  The legs on the trunk stayed where they should and didn't ride up at all - something which often happens with traditional boxer briefs.
While I tried the PACT Oceana Trunk, they also come in a traditional brief, boxer brief, and boxer in a plethora of patterns/causes.  AND, all of the patterns come in a matching women's boy short, bikini or thong.

I really must say that these are truly one of my favorites for comfort and style.  The added bonus of these being incredibly eco-friendly make buying these a no brainer.  Really, you need to check these out.

PostHeaderIcon The Right Combination of Tie and Pocket Square

Wearing a suit is something relatively simple but the way you choose the tie and the pocket square is an art.

If you haven’t yet decided to go this far as to accessorize a suit, I will attempt to convince you otherwise.

Let’s start with the fact that most of us can’t afford many suits. Sure, it would be nice to have one for each occasion but a suit is a BIG investment. For this reason we prefer suits that go well for each occasion.

Under these harsh conditions, how can we express ourselves?
Accessorize: enter the world of ties and pocket squares.

Now I know what you’re thinking: you’re already wearing a tie. But have you ever considered a pocket square? And do you know how to match them?
