Have Fun In Your Underwear ...
Now this is a bit atypical for a
menswear review, but we thought it'd be fun to review the men's and
women's version of Ginch Gonch since they create styles for both.
Ginch Gonch is one of those really cool
brands that has a fun, extensive variety of underwear, for both guys
and gals. I had the opportunity to try out a pair of Megatons while
my wife tried out the Heart as a Rock. Let me just say, it was a lot
of fun to have both of us sportin' Ginch Gonch.
The style of Ginch Gonch is pure fun –
and who can argue with having some fun in your pants? The cut of my
Megatons is that of a typical full-coverage brief, but the fun and
fabric is what makes the difference. It's like being a little boy
with having tiny earth movers all over your drawers! The fit of the
brief was quite comfortable, with soft 4-way stretch cotton and
full-coverage in the rear. My wife enjoyed my briefs as much as she
enjoyed hers (I liked 'em too) and found them sexy and comfortable.
You can't go wrong with Ginch Gonch if
you like to have fun in your underwear! ;-)

Keep Your "Boys" Toasty ...
The
Toasty Boys thermal sleep shorts are simply wonderful. Living in the
cold midwest (USA), I can appreciate the need to find warm sleep
shorts. Yesterday was -8F/-22C and I was in need of finding
something cozy and comfortable to wear around the house and to bed –
Toasty Boys did the trick.
The
thermal sleep shorts are like thermal long underwear without the
legs. What I found interesting is they took what often look like
boring underwear and turned them into fun, playful sleep shorts. The
cut of the sleep short is much more form-fitting than the typical
long underwear and features a stylish Toasty Boys branding on the
waistband.
The
sleep shorts performed just as I had hoped. They were comfortable
around the house and very warm for sleeping – let's just say my
“boys” were happy and toasty warm. I've found that I like these
so much that I've worn them a couple of times already. I tried both
the large (34-36”) and medium (32-34”). Since I'm a 34” waist,
I wasn't sure what size to get. I found that the large was most
comfortable for sleeping and lounging and the medium was best for
wearing under jeans. If you're size is in-between the ranges, I'd
stick with those - sizes seem to be right on.
So,
who is Christopher Anthony, designer behind Toasty Boys? Well, he's
a former Chicago fireman, who turned to film, who turned to fashion,
and became designer Christopher Anthony. After moving back to
Chicago, he became instantly reminded of the cold weather. Chicago,
famous for being the Windy City,
soon brought the realization one day that his “boys” were, in
fact, cold! With a newly formed actor’s imagination in hand,
Christopher Anthony suddenly tapped into his creative intuitions.
What
I really, really like about Christopher Anthony is that he's
passionate about using organic fabric. The Toasty Boys are made from
12 oz., 100% organic cotton. Concerned about keeping it
eco-friendly, Christopher doesn't have his products pre-washed with
chemicals as many do. When you buy a pair, you should pre-wash at
home before wearing.
I will say, if you live in a colder climate (or just like to be warm) you won't be dissapointed with Toasty Boys – they really do keep your boys toasty! :-) At $24 (US) they are a good buy for what you get.

Amorous 4Us - an eco-friendly brand worth checking out ...
I
recently reviewed Amorous 4Us, a company specializing in products
made from bamboo. While it may be a brand many have not heard of, it
is one worth taking note of. Today, let's talk about their boxer
brief.
First
thing I noticed right off the bat was how silky soft their boxer
brief was. Amorous 4Us' bamboo model blended fabric (47.5% Rayon
from Bamboo, 47.5% Modal, 5% Spandex) was especially designed by
the manufacturer for their underwear. Their fabric is among some of
the softest I've felt. The idea of this fabric is to combine the
softness, hypoallergenic, antibacterial, antifungal, absorbent, and
antistatic features from bamboo and modal together, in order to
provide extreme comfort.
As
a bonus (and a concept I really like) both bamboo and modal are
eco-friendly fabric, so it is benefit the people who don’t wear
them as well.
The style of the boxer-brief is quit attractive. I like how the soft fabric shows the lines and curves of the body (and its features). The front pouch was very comfortable and held things in place nicely. I didn't have any readjustments during the day. I was also impressed that the leg bands stayed in place and didn't ride up at all.

(B)rief Underneath - A New Concept in Menswear
(B)rief Underneath is a new brand of underwear being introduced in the market. The basic premise behind the underwear is its 2-in1 design of briefs sown in boxer briefs, lounge pants, and thermals. The line will position itself between high-end and mid-tier markets in 2010. There will be 48 styles and will be sold through 600 department stores across the US. Prices will range from $18-$32.I recently had the opportunity to try all 3 products in their line (boxers, lounge, and thermals). The material is a soft 98% Cotton/2% Spandex. After wearing all three, I did find them all to be quite comfortable and fit well. I have no complaints. I found the concept of 2-in1 interesting. I thought, "Hey, I can just wake up and put these on without having to grab a pair of briefs out of the drawer." After a bit more reflection, I also realized that I would then need to wash them after a day's wear. Typically, when wearing boxers or lounge pants for lounging around I will wear them a couple of times before they need to be washed as I always have briefs on underneath.
This leaves me with a bit of a dilemma on how to rate these. I've decide to rate them on if I wanted to buy a 2-in1. I'll leave the decision to you on if you want them all together or if you prefer to buy these types of things separately.Overall Rating: 4/5

Sculptees - The Body Sculpting Wonder!
UPDATE: Menswear Review readers can save 15% at Sculptees now through December 20th.
Enter Code: mwr150ff
I've recently had the pleasure of
trying the Scultptees Slim, T-Slim, and Pex. Wonderful would be an
understatement.
The Sculptees Slim (tanktop) is
designed to help sculpt your physique. The Slim has a ribbed knit
design that runs from top to bottom, comfortably slimming your
mid-section. Because of the design, I didn't feel any seems - which
made for comfortable wearing. The Slim is a compression tanktop, but
it didn't compress to the point where I was uncomfortable. I wore
the Slim under a fitted t-shirt all day and was really quite
comfortable. The Slim did a fantastic job of fading my Thanksgiving
Day sins. :-) At $58, it's well priced for a slimming shirt.
The Sculptees T-Slim (undershirt) is a
body sculpting mesh t-shirt. I really liked how the T-Slim fit,
performed and looked! The shirt looks really small when you first
pull it out of the package, but it has wonderful stretch. The tight
(but not overly tight) t-shirt sculpts your body, giving a more
muscular look. I found the shirt enhanced my pecs and biceps. The
material is a lightweight mesh that breaths well and wicked away
sweat while I worked out. The T-Slim is $78 but worth the price. Of
the three styles, this was my favorite.
The Sculptees Pex (tanktop) is designed
to hug your waist, but not your pecs. The fit is similar to the
T-Slim except that the top of the shirt (pecs) doesn't have the
compression. This is really for when you just want to control your
waistline and aren't concerned about your pecs. Similar to the
T-Slim, it is also a ribbed knit nylon material. I also found this
shirt to be comfortable and did as described – slimmed my waist.
At $58 is the same price as the T-Slim – you just need to decide if
you want full compression or just on your waist.
All in all, I really liked all three
styles. My favorite is the T-Slim – really liked how it looked on
me and felt. I would easily wear any of these 3 under a dress shirt
for work or out for fun. Prices are similar to the RIPT and Equmen.
The Equmen gave me a tad better back support but I liked how the
Sculptees T-Slim looked on my better. The choice is yours, you won't
be disappointed with any of the three styles.
Get yours for the holidays – you'll
want to look good after all the holiday treats!
You can buy Sculptees factory direct or
through Freshpair (free shipping) – both sell for $58 for the Slim
and Pex or $78 for the T-Slim.

Luxury Underwear for the average guy ...Tommy John
In
my post about Tommy John undershirts, I commented that when I think
of Tommy John, think luxury. The same holds true for their briefs.
I recently had the opportunity to try Tommy John briefs and have been
most impressed.
Like
the Tommy John Second Skin undershirt, the same holds true for their
Second Skin brief. Made from silky
Micro Modal fabric, the briefs are very lightweight and super
comfortable. The material is stretchy and supportive. Quality is
certainly noticeable with the flatlock stitching and the double layer
paneled pouch.
The
cut of the brief is a standard brief cut. There was plenty of
coverage in the rear, didn't have any riding-up issues, and the pouch
was very comfortable. These are available in white or black. I
chose black and they looked pretty sexy – especially with the fine
stitched “Tommy John” on the waistband.
These
are now part of my favorites list and have found a home in the front
of my drawer. Priced at $24 a pair, they are competitively priced with
other brands and are worth the price you pay.
You
can buy these at www.tommyjohnwear.com

Tommy John ... think affordable luxury!
When I think of Tommy John, I think luxury. I recently had the opportunity to try a Tommy John crewneck undershirt and briefs. This review is on the Tommy John crewneck Undershirt.
As someone who wear a shirt and tie every day (often 12-14 hour days) comfort is of great importance to me. I often find myself needing to go to the restroom just so I can pull my undershirt back down. Too often, my undershirts bunch up around may waist giving me love handles I don't have. When I heard about the Tommy John undershirt, I was skeptical that an undershirt could really stay tucked. I was also skeptical that it would feel like a “second skin” - boy, was I wrong!!
The Tommy John Second Skin undershirt is simply amazing. The silky Micro Modal fabric is so lightweight it really feels like I'm not wearing an undershirt – yes, like it really is my second skin. The super soft material is very stretchy without being clingy to you. I can see how any man, regardless of physique, will be comfortable in this shirt.
The Second Skin undershirt is more expensive ($36) than the RibbedTee (2/$20) or the Jockey Go ($23), but they're not the same undershirt. All three do stay tucked in throughout the day – that's where the similarity ends. The Second Skin is by far the most comfortable to wear. The RibbedTee is quite a bit less ($10/ea) but you know you're wearing an undershirt. If you have the money, I'd buy the Tommy John. If the price is too steep, go with the RibbedTee. You may want to buy one of each and decide if the price is worth it for your self.
You can buy these at www.tommyjohnwear.com for $36 or on sale at Freshpair for $30.60.
